Throughout the many years of working with people in ceramics, I have seen the different directions they all have taken, and I have an appreciation of what Art is! I have learned to look at someone’s work, whether it’s work done by a beginner, or someone who’s worked in it for years, and look for the many positive things in their art. Looking at other people’s work, I try not to be too critical. It may not be to my taste in art, whether it’s the form, color, or technique that was used. My definition of art is creating something to your own taste and creation, which might please some, but cannot be expected to please all. Even though most people should find their own niche, it shouldn’t develop into a tunnel vision, and shut off other avenues pertaining to their art desires. I personally enjoy trying different techniques, forms, and constantly creating new glazes that are unique. Instead of finding my niche, I enjoy searching for new avenues where no one has gone before.
